The organization PACE (Programme for Accessible health, Communication and Education) focuses on generating a positive health impact throughout Uganda by the means of social marketing and other proven, evidence based techniques. An internship with the organization took place over the course of eight weeks and was conducted under the PDM activities of the LLINs. The focus of the project was on monitoring of the LLINs in the different districts of Uganda like Jinja, Mayuge, Mubende, Kassanda and Oyam where the intern operated from. Any of the information gathered during this time was done so through the following methods: by gathering observational information on and the practical application of social marketing in the field, attending staff meetings, attending program trainings, conducting informal interviews, and research. These methods were chosen because the majority of the internship was spent in the field so they allowed for the greatest amount of efficiency. An Analysis was conducted and divided into sections by the internships set objectives. PACE’s chosen methods of social marketing were understood and examples of sales conversations were recorded. The perception of two of the organizations branded products, distributed nets and Trust condoms were examined and assessed. Views of PACE and associations with the organization were gathered through informal interviews and evaluated as well. The PDM program utilized social marketing methods during sales and economic gains about using PACE’s life-saving products were explained as well. The products and the organization were generally perceived in a positive manner by the public. Recommendations based on finding s during the internship have been included and may be implemented in order to generate further positive impact on the health of Ugandans. The organization allowed for much knowledge to be gained on the sales of subsidized health products and how this can improve the health of the people in Uganda. The internship was a success in that the intended objectives were met, although more time would have provided a further in-depth plan for the recommendations offered to the organization.

Level: university
Type: dissertations
Subject: public administration and management
Author: cantoo charles
This study examined the effect of leadership styles on the performance of government agencies in Uganda with UNRA as a case study. This qualitative research was focused on the following three specific objectives; the first one was to find out how transformational leadership has impacted on the performance of Uganda National Road Authority. The second objective was to assess how transactional leadership style affected the performance at Uganda National Road Authority. The last objective for this study was to establish how the laisse-fair leadership style has influenced the performance at Uganda National Road Authority. With the use of variety of research tools, including questionnaires, interviews and focus group discussions, systematically the researcher followed the order of the research objectives, collected dated, analysed and presented the findings. The findings of the study showed consisted of both positive and negative effects. To begin with, the research revealed that when the administrators employed the transformational leadership, it resulted into improvement in the performance of the agency. Secondly the research showed that it is paramount for the leaders to ensure that the reward system was providing motivation to the staff for them to improve on their performance and hence the performance of the agency. It was also revealed that laissez faire leadership affected the performance negatively. The study concludes that all the three leadership styles (transformational, transactional and laissez faire) had an association with the performance of UNRA. The study suggested sustainable ideas that could turn the challenges upside down. Some of the suggestions included the need for appropriate skills among men and women as an important factor in job acquisition. Other suggestions included, administration of UNRA focuses on using transformational leadership style. The study finally noted that administration should eliminate the elements of laissez faire leadership.
