Field attachment is a pre-professional experience where students often get hands on practical experience. Internship is a requirement whereby arrangements for students are made to seek or be helped to get placed in different forms of work in the course of their study programmes in order to experience the real life of work and to relate learnt theories to actual work setting and thus appreciate their applicability. The report highlights the activities, tasks and assignments that the intern was assigned during his internship exercise with Kalungi sub-county in the department of Accounts and Finance Program. This was for a period of 8 weeks starting from 7th June to 4th August 2019. The internship was intended to expose the student intern to practical application, knowledge and skills in the field of Economics and as such, he believes that his placement at Kalungi sub-county was a very beneficial experience. During the 8 weeks training, the intern participated in a number of activities such as report writing, attending conferences, preparing for donor audits, asset registration, analysis various reports from different organizations, attending staff meetings, and filling monitoring. The intern was able to attain a number of skills and acquire knowledge on various concepts from participating in these activities. The skills include team work, report writing, developing articles for print media publication, organizational and intercultural competence, program organization and coordination, communication and computer skills. The intern had a wonderful experience at Kalungi sub-county and recommends the organization to organize more of such programs and workshops to widen its sphere of operation. It will be of much benefit to the organization if it continues to create similar platforms for young people across the country as a way of building their capacities bringing them to appreciate the civil society sector and share in the vision. However, there were a number of challenges that the intern experienced while at Kalungi sub-county. These included, slow internet at times, traffic jam on the road, instability in power supply, among others. Despite the challenges, the intern was able to complete the internship course successfully within the required experiential time as far as the study course is concerned. Generally, working at Kalungi sub-county gave the intern the best preamble into the working environment with specific reference to the department of Finance. The intern gained a lot of knowledge on topical and economic issues in Uganda, the effects of the corruption to the economy, budget analysis, debt management and the taxation system in Uganda.

Internship is a relatively short term course in nature (6-12 weeks) with the primary focus of doing on job training by taking what’s learned in the classroom and applying it to the real world. The training took place in the month of September of the year 2020 at Busia Municipal Council Headquarters (Western Division). Echoing the previous section, Busia Municipal Council is a Lower Local Government (LLG) which works under the governing body of Busia district where it’s located. The organization is headed by the Town clerk; this office aims at providing the facilitating role and executive control in making the agency achieve its goals and objectives. I was acting as internee and I participated in most of the activities and would report to the finance offices such as; orientation/induction, recording of cash transactions, filing of bank slips, assisting in the conducting bank reconciliations, receiving and processing invoices, expense forms and requests for payments, writing minutes, secretarial work among others. There was guidance and assessment by both field supervisor and academic supervisor in all activities at the work place. During internship, I was attached to the finance department which is the support office to the organization because it’s actively engaged in each major operations at BMC. During the internship training period at Busia Municipal Council, a number of activities were completed, among the activities that I accomplished; preparation of the work plan, collection of data from the field and receipting of revenues by use of charts of accounts among others. I gained a number of skills and experiences like; Financial skills, Auditing skills, Analytical skills, Time management skills, Leadership skills and so on. Both organisation and personal challenges during my internship training were faced more so the infection of the Corona Virus (Covid-19 Pandemic). In conclusion, he internship training was of great benefit both academically and professionally as it enabled the intern to put theoretic knowledge into practice and also gain a lot of working experience. With respect to the intern’s experience from the internship training recommendations were made to the university, organisation and students such as; Busia Municipal Council needs to start facilitating interns most especially in terms and students should always apply for internship placement in time.

The objective of the study visit to Kenya and Uganda in April 2004, sponsored by the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) and focusing on organic agriculture, was: ‘Improved information and communication in African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries on best practices and added value production and certification of organic products (including medicinal plants)’. The 20 participants in the visit were stakeholders in the production and certification of organic products, including medicinal plants, in Uganda and Kenya. The expected results were: • Exchange of information among participants; • Analysis of best practices observed in the field; • Recommendations for follow-up actions. The participants were drawn from eight ACP countries (Grenada, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe) and one European Union (EU) country (Austria) (see Annex 2). At the opening meeting in Kampala, Uganda on 19 April, the participants were briefed on the study visit programme, aims and objectives and given information on the agricultural sector in Uganda, particularly the organic subsector. In Uganda, the participants visited projects involving rural farmers who had adopted organic agriculture, a university’s organic agriculture neighbourhood schools outreach programme, and enterprises focusing on honey production, processing and marketing, medicinal grass processing, and sweet banana and pineapple processing. In Kenya, field visits were made to organic agriculture training institutes and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), organic farms, and small honey and medicinal plant processing enterprises. At the end of each day the participants discussed and synthesised their experiences and observations. The final group synthesis session was held in Nairobi, Kenya on 29 April. The study visit programme is reproduced in Annex 3. The main issues affecting organic agriculture in developing countries, as identified by the study visit participants, are given here.

This field attachment report gives an account of all the activities that I did and how they were done during the time of doing the internship training with Code Eagles. Section One: highlights the brief introduction, gives the profile, mission, vision, aims and objectives of field attachment, it also gives, structure, mission and objectives, functions and ongoing IT projects for Code Eagles. Section Two: provides the field attachment activities done and they include Graphics designing, Networking, repair and maintenance, Embedded system development, Linux administration. Section Three gives the details of several challenges, emerging issues and the discussion of my experience while at Code Eagles. Section Four gives the recommendations for the organization, the University and describes the Conclusions drawn throughout my entire internship period. During this training, there was a surplus of skills acquired and among these were a deep and practical appreciation of the software engineer’s process, ability to work without very close supervision, work planning to beat deadlines and being a team player.

It was grate to work with Mr. Amos, I am so motivated, that to be independent worker (managing your own work is much better than working under someone) I learnt practical works such as pipe fitting using PVC, cement and fitting, cutting of pipe using pipe cutters, drilling of wells for fitting wells, plugs and other minor finishes. I did faced some challenges including getting injuries, inaccuracy in cutting pipes at 90o, ,language barrier thus making communication less effective, I face problem in handling tools were some got lost.

This report is representative of the internship which was organized by Makerere university to enable its students acquire practical training in their various professions. Also to enable students acquire working experience. I carried out my internship at the Uganda prisons service headquarters for a period of two months from the 6th June 2011 to 29th July 2011. This report basically includes the following; Chapter one has the introduction, brief history of the UPS, the organizational statements, aims and objectives, achievements and challenges of the organization in fulfilling the aims and objectives. Chapter two contains the organizational setup i.e. staffing, organizational charts, financial arrangements and information transfer arrangements. Chapter three has the work programs, activities done, purpose of work undertaken and evaluation of the work completed. Chapter four contains the recommendations, evaluations of the training in both BRAM and the host institution contexts.
