A REPORT ON INTERNSHIP TRAINING AT KALUNGI SUB-COUNTY, NAKASONGOLA DISTRICT 1ST SEPTEMBER 2020 TO 31ST OCTOBER 2020.
attachment is a pre-professional experience where students often get hands on practical experience. Internship is a requirement whereby arrangements for students are made to seek or be helped to get placed in different forms of work in the course of their study programmes in order to experience the real life of work and to relate learnt theories to actual work setting and thus appreciate their applicability. The report highlights the activities, tasks and assignments that the I was assigned during my internship exercise with Kalungi sub-county in the department of Accounts and Finance . This was for a period of 8 weeks starting from 1st September to 31stOctober 2020. The internship was intended to expose me to practical application, knowledge and skills in the field of Economics and as such, I believe that my placement at Kalungi sub-county was a very beneficial experience. During the 8 weeks training, I participated in a number of activities such as report writing, attending conferences, preparing for donor audits, asset registration, analysis of various reports from different organizations and attending staff meetings. I was able to attain a number of skills and acquire knowledge on various concepts while participating in these activities. The skills include team work, report writing, developing articles for print media publication, organizational and intercultural competence, program organization and coordination, communication and computer skills. I really had a wonderful experience at Kalungi sub-county and recommended the organization to organize more of such programs and workshops to widen its sphere of operation. It will be of much benefit to the organization if it continues to create similar platforms for young people across the country as a way of building their capacities bringing them to appreciate the civil society sector and share in the vision. However, there were challenges that I experienced while at Kalungi sub-county. These included; slow internet at times, high transport costs, instability in power supply, hunger among others. Despite the challenges, I was able to complete the internship course successfully within the required experiential time as far as the study course is concerned. Generally, working at Kalungi sub-county gave me the best preamble into the working environment with specific reference to the Finance Department. I gained a lot of knowledge on topical and economic issues in Uganda, the effects of the corruption to the economy, budget analysis, debt management and the taxation system in Uganda.
