The purpose of this study was to investigate the reference service guidelines for MRU Library which is a major concern in most academic libraries. The primary aim was to identify the various reference service guidelines at MRU Library. In order to achieve the research objectives, an in-depth literature study was undertaken. Observations were made on the current status of the reference services in the library and the data was collected by means of self-administered questionnaires, interviews, and observation. The empirical study revealed that reference service guidelines are not receiving much attention at MRU Library. Even though participants acknowledged the importance of having reference services, it was evident that the reference services offered at MRU library are not effective to support the information needs of users. Recommendations were drawn with the context of empirical findings. Reference services guidelines should be promoted to ensure that the library users are able to effectively use the information.
