Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), a disease previously known for "the rich'', has become a health problem affecting both the rich and poor. The disease has increasingly become prevalent in adults and the elderly. Diabetes mellitus is a medical complication characterized by an elevation of blood glucose level. In 2015, it was estimated that there were 408 million people with type 2 diabetes in the world. This accounted for about 90% of diabetes cases. However, with the increasing prevalence of T2DM, there has not been enough sensitization about this killer disease. Diet, exercise and behavioral approaches represent the key for management and prevention of diabetes. More important, consumption of dietary fibers was inversely related to T2DM and CVDs. Researchers stressed that, consumption of more than 26g a day had an 18% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes than those with the lowest intake. Fibre is related with a variety of physiological effects and some health benefits include reduced risks of obesity, CHD and diabetes. This study was aimed at assessing the knowledge and consumption patterns of fibre rich foods among diabetic patients at Kiruddu Hospital. Specific objectives included; i) assessing the knowledge on health benefits of consuming dietary fibre, ii) assessing the consumption patterns of fibre rich foods, iii) determining their nutritional status and iv) determining the lifestyle factors used in management of diabetes among diabetic patients at Kiruddu Hospital. Majority of the respondents were female (62%), and most of the respondents were educated to at least primary level (48%). The majority (70%) of the respondents were overweight and obese. Results from the study showed that majority of the people were not engaged in smoking (85% non-smokers) and alcohol consumption (51% non-drinkers). Majority (60.2%) of the respondents had knowledge on fibre and had attained it from medical workers. There was a significant relationship between knowledge of fibre and consumption of fibre among the patients but food sources of fibre were mainly consumed occasionally by the respondents. There was awareness on fibre among the diabetic patients at Kiruddu Hospital and patients had knowledge on some of its uses in the management of diabetes especially glycemic control. However, there is need for sensitization on frequency and amount of fibre the patients should consume.

Subject: law
Author: yengi bismark samuel duku
Nothing more has made the average people afraid than the absolute right of equality in sharing property. Over time and since time immemorial, the man has grab for himself a lot of power, wealth, authority and fame, and anything which is not like him will not be entitled to the privileges a man is supposed to have. Instead of using his power, authority and wealth to uplift and empower the unprivileged like women in the society, man has decided to use his power and authority to undermine the woman and labelling her to be second class citizen and the woman is therefore seen to be below the standard of the man. Women at all material times have been equated to property, and lesser human beings compared to men. As result society has labeled them to be stupid, and people who cannot comprehend difficult things. All these beliefs about women are the principle reasons why, they have been assigned roles that are considered to be inferior to those of men in the marriage institution. Throughout history, the woman is not allowed to own property since she was equated to property and things like inheritance rights are strictly restricted to the male gender, and matrimonial property is regarded to be for the man because the non-financial contribution of the woman is considered to be inferior and therefore unequal to the man. Such beliefs have given the man a superior position in the family, and the man has decided to use his superiority to beat and torture the woman hence leading to domestic violence. The suffering of the Woman caught the attention of the United Nations to adopt and to bring into force CEDAW to address the crisis of property faced by women in the marriage institution and advancing the principle that, Men and Women should be equal in the marriage institution. The researcher’s aim is therefore to investigate whether the law has effectively addressed the issue of rights of women to property in marriage and divorce.

Subject: law
Author: adongo lydia
The objective of the study was to determine the impact of environmental laws in combating environmental crimes in Uganda with specific reference to Bukedea district. This included determination of factors affecting environmental crime management, causes of environmental crime, establishment of the nature and extent of environmental crime. All these assisted in understanding impact of environmental laws in combating environmental crimes in Uganda. Research questions which the study attempted to answer include what factors affect environmental crime management, the causes of environmental crime, the nature and the extent of environmental crime and the effectiveness of environmental crime management in Uganda. A conceptual framework was used to simplify the relationship between variables in the study. The relationship shows that environmental crime management in Uganda faces several challenges that in varied ways hinder proper environmental crime management. The methodology adopted during the study included desk top review of existing scholarly materials for secondary data and focused group discussions for primary data. The respondents were also made aware of the purpose of the research and informed on how and when they will get feedback of the study. The study concludes that lack of understanding of the long term effects of environmental crimes among key stakeholders has led to crimes being treated as misdemeanors thus attracting low penalties if any, hence resulting in poor management of the crime. The study recommends that the process of enacting legislation on environmental crime should be all inclusive, adopting a wider consultative approach. The study encourages the strengthening of environmental crime management policies. At the moment environmental crime management is a loose concept with weak policy. Environmental crimes should be addressed by policy and legislation that ensures that local communities benefit from the country‘s natural resources so that they value and protect them. Environmental crime management should be greatly enhanced by improving the capacity of the environmental law enforcement officials and other stakeholders through training.

Education has undergone tremendous changes over the COVID-19 situation. These include the introduction of semi-full-time online learning for the university students as well as their respective online tests and examinations. However, the same flexibility has not been seen in the pre-primary section of education whereby the schools were all but closed with no intrinsic plan involved. This is problematic as it halts the development of the beneficiaries of pre-primary education, who are at a stage where this particular intellectual development is much needed, according to professionals [1]. Therefore, a solution must be procured. Following the example of the universities, a digital solution that continues the education without the physical presence of the children is required. And that is where the MAMA learning platform comes in. It is intended to mitigate the aforementioned problem and continue the education of the children. Through this, the COVID-19 restrictions are by-passed and the children are treated to a wide variety of educational material. |
