The relationship between poverty and its implications for youth ministry is a significant concern in developing regions. Manikakara Payam, in South Sudan, represents one such locale grappling with these challenges. Literature Review: Notable works like Putnam's "Bowling Alone" (2000) underscore how religious and community institutions often struggle with funding constraints, affecting their sustainability and impact. Parallel observations in World Bank (2019) reports and UNICEF (2018) studies spotlight economic impediments, particularly poverty, as deterrents to active youth participation in community and religious endeavors. Research Methodology: A quantitative survey method was employed, targeting both youth participants and community members in Manikakara Payam to gather insights about the impacts of poverty on youth ministry. Results: The research indicated a pronounced sentiment linking funding with the vitality of youth ministry, with 84% of respondents echoing this sentiment. Additionally, 81% saw poverty as a significant impediment to youth's active engagement in ministry. Moreover, a sizeable 69% highlighted families' increased financial dependence on the youth, sidelining their other engagements. Recommendations: Future interventions in Manikakara Payam should prioritize securing sustainable funding avenues for youth ministries. Initiatives that address economic challenges, especially focusing on youth empowerment and education, could also prove pivotal. Further, community awareness programs can help in bridging the perceived gaps in church initiatives and their visibility. Conclusion: Youth ministry in Manikakara Payam is significantly influenced by poverty and funding constraints. Addressing these challenges necessitates a holistic approach that combines community engagement, sustainable funding, and socio-economic upliftment initiatives.
