guidelines for providing reference and information services for masaka public library

Description

This project covered the guidelines for reference and information services. The main objectives were to identify reference services available in Masaka Public library, to examine the provision of reference services, to examine the challenges faced and finally to propose the guidelines for providing reference services in the Library. The project gives the results of a study carried out on reference and information services and then finding the best way on how to provide the reference services in the most appropriate ways. The methods used for research included; Questionnaire and Interview and the instruments used for research were interview guide and questionnaires and then data was analyzed before presented. Qualitative research approach was used in data collection and data was analysed and presented in a descriptive form of research design. The findings of the study were challenges of the users face while accessing the services and the researcher noted the following; Fewer computers, Unawareness about the existing sources of information, Unreliable electricity and lack of space for storage of the collections. The researcher also found out that these people need the supervision on providing reference services and how to access the reference services The project recommended that it would be important to introduce various improve on reference services at MPL so as to help distribute different information to the community since it is a public library whereby all categories of people in the community can be considered and helped.
