assessment of wind energy potential in south western uganda (kabale district)
Level: university
Type: dissertations
Subject: meteorology
Author: muramuzi moses
Uganda is one of the developing countries and its dependence upon imported fossil fuels can only be offset by the sustained exploitation of its indigenous resources. Wind energy is renewable and environment friendly, which can be harnessed for various end-uses. A precise knowledge of wind energy regime is a pre-requisite for the efficient planning and implementation of any wind energy project. However, due to the absence of a reliable and accurate Ugandan Wind Atlas, further studies on the assessment of wind energy in Uganda are necessary. The main purpose of this paper is to present and to perform an investigation on the wind energy potential for Kabaale in south western Uganda. Therefore, in this study, wind data collected over a period of eleven years at one location in this region of Uganda were evaluated in order to figure out the wind energy potential for Kabaale. The data from selected station was analyzed using the two-parameter Weibull probability distribution function. With an annual mean wind speed of 4.6m/s, an annual energy of 677.337 kWh/m2 could be extracted. It is found that the potential uses of wind energy in this location is less for big industrial purposes but can be used for water pumping in rural areas. The study presented here is also an attempt to promote wind energy in Uganda and to bridge the gap in order to create prospective Wind Atlas of Uganda.
business plan of jcn enterprises

Author: okungu cyrus
JCN enterprises is a partnership business that is jointly owned by a group of 10 students from Makerere University. The enterprises deals in making simple baking and pizza oven as its main product. The idea of the business was generated by one of the partners and managers in the business Mr. Okungu Cyrus who identified challenges faced by small bakeries that use cooking oil and electricity with high market prices, thus high costs of operation. Recommendation. The business members recommended a solution for the problems by making an even that is cost effective as it uses charcoal that is less expensive compared to electricity. This will also help reduce dependence on cooking oil in small bakeries as it has always been. Product description. The charcoal oven is made of a metallic drum with two openings, the door and the ash chamber. The interior is made of cement and clay to reduce overheating and ensure well distributed temperature while in use. it is mobile, with 4 rolling tyres and side handles for easy mobility. Financial plan. The project is quite costly, especially when we need to expand. This will require us to borrow some funds, or increase share capital contributions from the partners from 50,000shs to about 100,000shs. This will boost our capacity to operate by 50%. Marketing plan. We plan to use cost-based pricing and add a standard mark-up of 20% of the cost, thus the oven will be selling at a market price of 600,000shs, which is fair enough. Well market the products on various online platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Well also continue to improve the product according to our customer demands.

mathematical methods in the physical sciences
Level: university
Type: text books
Subject: physics
Author: mary l. boas
This book is particularly intended for the student with a year (or a year and a half) of calculus who wants to develop, in a short time, a basic competence in each of the many areas of mathematics needed in junior to senior-graduate courses in physics, chemistry, and engineering. Thus it is intended to be accessible to sophomores (or freshmen with AP calculus from high school). It may also be used effectively by a more advanced student to review half-forgotten topics or learn new ones, either by independent study or in a class. Although the book was written especially for students of the physical sciences, students in any field (say mathematics or mathematics for teaching) may find it useful to survey many topics or to obtain some knowledge of areas they do not have time to study in depth. Since theorems are stated carefully, such students should not need to unlearn anything in their later work. The question of proper mathematical training for students in the physical sciences is of concern to both mathematicians and those who use mathematics in applications. Some instructors may feel that if students are going to study mathematics at all, they should study it in careful and thorough detail. For the undergraduate physics, chemistry, or engineering student, this means either (1) learning more mathematics than a mathematics major or (2) learning a few areas of mathematics thoroughly and the others only from snatches in science courses. The second alternative is often advocated; let me say why I think it is unsatisfactory. It is certainly true that motivation is increased by the immediate application of a mathematical technique, but there are a number of disadvantages: 1. The discussion of the mathematics is apt to be sketchy since that is not the primary concern. 2. Students are faced simultaneously with learning a new mathematical method and applying it to an area of science that is also new to them.
