Background: Tuberculosis is an important cause of human suffering and death. HIV and multi-drug resistant TB have emerged as threats to TB control. Objectives: This research was carried out to determine prevalence of HIV among multi drug resistant TB patients at Mulago hospital TB ward. To assess other tb determinants associated multi-drug resistant TB patients at TB ward Mulago hospital and determining the relationship between HIV and multi-drug resistant TB. Methodology and results:The research was a cross sectional study design in which 100 blood samples were collected from multi-drug resistant TB patients which were examined for presence of HIV. Participants consented to take part in the study at the time of data collection and a structured questionnaire was administered to participants. The prevalence of HIV among multi-drug resistant TB patients was 44% and46.7% of patients co-infected with MDR-TB and HIVwere 21 to 40 years of age and 51.7% were female while 40.8% were male patients. Conclusion: it was found out that HIV is closely associated with MDR-TB among other TB determinants which showed no association with MDR-TB. The government authorities should put more effort in educating the public especially in the villages about the preventive and control measures of multi-drug resistant TB.
