The study was aimed at assessing the current records disposal system at Nansana Municipal council registry. The objectives of the study were; to identify the different types of records within Nansana Municipal Council (NMC) Registry, to examine the current records disposal system at Nansana Municipal Council Registry, to establish the challenges faced with the current records disposal system at Nansana Municipal Council Registry, and to assess a records disposal system for Nansana Municipal Council Registry. The researcher used qualitative research approach to deeply understand records current disposal system at NMC registry. Interview and observation guides were the instruments used for data collection. The data collected were presented and analysed using descriptive methods. It was realized that NMC registry keep a wide range of records which include financial records, personal records, and administrative records among others. There were several problems that affect NMC registry records disposal system which include inadequate space, inadequate finance, inadequate equipments/materials, location of the reserve section, lack of a records disposal policy, lack of specialized staff to handle disposal of records, and the biological agents such as fungi and insects. Possible solutions have been suggested for the improvement in the records disposal system at Nansana Municipal Council which includes setting up proper procedures for disposing off records, developing a policy on disposal of records, training of the registry staff, and increasing the registry budget. The recommendations for the improvement of the current records disposal system are follow up on the use of materials, regular checking on the records in the registry, repairing the value of records received in the registry, digitalization of all the records, and marking and labeling of files in the registry.
