The study was aboutassessment of records storage practices at the National Housing and Construction Company (NHCC) Ltd. The objectives of the study were to; identify the categories of records generated in at NHCC Ltd, examine the current record storage practices at the NHCC Ltd, find out the challenges of record storage practices at the NHCC Ltd and recommend the best records storage practices at the NHCC Ltd.The study employed a case study research design while adopting a qualitative research approach in the collection of data. Purposive sampling was used to select one (1) records officer, two (2) records assistants and four (4) secretaries at National Housing and Construction Company who are responsible with the storage of records at the company. Data was collected using interviews and observation methods. The study established that the different types of records managed at NHCCL were; cartographic records, plans, architecture drawings, text records in files, photographic records, audio-visual records and the contract records among others. The study revealed that NHCCL registry has maintained the manual records storage system alongside the electronic records management system which was acquired in the year 2015.The challenges in the records storage practices at NHCCL were; new records management system, inadequate records management facilities, lack of records management skills by the action officers, inadequate funds, creation of different records formats and the poor record storage practices. In order to improve the records storage practices at NHCCL, the different suggestions include; training of the records users, implementing a records management policy, limited access to the records, make use of the records retention schedule, weeding and appraisal of records and usage of the file plan.
