The concept at hand is a proposal to set up a restaurant at the School of Psychology to meet the food needs of the population around the School and in the neighborhood. We intend to name it the “The Psychology Canteen”. The current location is around the “Psychology green” just behind block B building at Makerere University School of Psychology. The two promoters of the business (MusanjeKhamisi and Joyce Nansamba) who happen to be members of Staff in the School of Psychology will jointly own the business once approved but also have a plan of opening up entry to other members of the School who might pick interest in being part of the business as it grows. The main rationale to starting up this business is to meet the food needs of staff and students in the school. By location, the School of Psychology is a bit far from the main food centers within the University such as Jesh functional services, Pharmacy canteen, Library canteen and food science. This reality creates a lot of pain and inconvenience when it comes to accessing lunch at the School of Psychology which forces most of the staff to opt for food in Wandegeya, which is not only time wasting but also an extra cost in terms transport. Besides members of staff, Students within the School are also suffering the same pain, leaving them at the mercy of canteens at Complex hall which basically offer snacks. Thus, it’s upon this background that we are developing this proposal to help cover the gap while making a profit as business people.
