Description

The study aimed at developing a library user manual for Cavendish University Uganda Library. The objectives of the study were to; identify the types of services offered, examine how library services are offered to users, find out the challenges in offering library services and develop a library user manual for Cavendish University library. The study employed a case study design while adopting both the qualitative and quantitative research approaches. Simple random sampling was used to select 60 students whereas 6 library staff and 2 lecturers were selected using purposive sampling. The services accessed by the library users were; library orientation, circulation services, scanning and printing, reference service, and exhibition and display. The challenges in provision of library services which include; limited communication channels, failure for students to return information materials on the specified time, few library staff, inadequate funds, inadequate computers in the library, inadequate storage space, and inadequate reading room. There various suggestions put across to promote on the provision of library services at CUU Library which include; developing a policy for provision of library services, employing more qualified staff, providing more space for reading, allocating enough funds to the library, and provision of more computers and fast internet in the library. This shows a need for a Library User Manual to support the provision of the services at CUU Library. The study recommended the university library to adopt the proposed Library User Manual in order to support the library staff in delivering information resources to users.
