The purpose of the study was to design stock taking guidelinesfor Pimbas SSS library. The study objectives were to; examine the status of the library collection at Pimbas SSS library, establish how stocktaking of information materials is carried out at Pimbas SSS library, identify the challenges in stocktaking of information materials at Pimbas SSS library, and develop stocktaking guidelines for information materials at Pimbas SSS library. The study employed a case study research design while adopting both the qualitative and quantitative approaches to obtain data from the respondents. Purposive sampling method was used to select 66 students, 2 teachers, and the 2 school librarians. Questionnaires, interviews and observation guides were used to collect data from the respondents. The findings of the study were that; i. The different information resources kept at Pimbas SSS library such as; text books, past papers, newspapers, holy books, and others were not in good condition due to the poor shelving practices, mishandling of the books in the library and the dust on top of the information materials in the library ii. The methods used for stocktaking of library materials were by physical checking and tally documents on shelves with accession register which are not only cumbersome and time consuming but also require the entire register to be kept while checking. iii. The challenges in stock taking of library materials were; limited resources, overdue retention, limited labour, limited time and low motivation The study concluded that there is need for the guidelines for stock taking of library materials at Pimbas SSS Library so as to promote the utilisation of the library resources in the school library. The study recommended Pimbas SSS Library Management to adopt the proposed stock taking guidelines to support the librarians in stock taking of library materials at Pimbas SSS Library.
