MUSIC EDUCATION: THE STATE OF MUSIC EDUCATION IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS; A CASE STUDY OF UGANDA MARTYRS HIGH SCHOOL LUBAGA, KAMPALA

Formal music education was introduced by missionaries during the colonial times and it started from Christian schools. Though education still existed by then but it was based on oral traditions whereby music was taught by word of mouth that is to say; Oral traditions through folk songs by that time. Therefore, this study addressed the state of music education in secondary schools with a case study of Uganda martyrs high school Lubaga. The researcher carried out a qualitative study whereby during field work, data was gathered through conducting interviews, Auto ethnography, use of internet to gather various information concerning the current study document analysis and literature review. The findings also further show that the policy or curricula needs to be redesigned in order to make music a better subject.
