REGIONAL POLITICAL INSTABILITIES AND THE REFUGEE CRISIS IN UGANDA: A CRITICAL ANALYSIS

In a study that sought to critically analyze the contribution of regional political instabilities to the refugee crisis in Uganda, the researcher sought to realize three major objectives such as to examine regional political instabilities and their contribution to refugee crisis in Uganda; To establish the impact of refugee crisis in Uganda and to analyze the underlying policy responses to refugee crisis in Uganda. Through the human security theoretical framework, the researcher adopted a cross-sectional study design and qualitative approach and data was collected from secondary sources using documentary review and analyzed thematically. Findings revealed that regional political instabilities have fundamentally led to refugee crisis in Uganda. The refugee influx has affected on Ugandan people‟s economic, environmental, food, health, political, personal and community security. The policy responses in Uganda for refugees tries to cater for this human security through the local integration approach, a lot is desired to be done domestically and regionally. Implications and recommendations are herein presented, analyzed and discussed in the paper. Key Words: Political Instability, Refugee Crisis, Human Security
