ENERGY CONSUMPTION PRACTICES AND FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF HOTELS IN UGANDA, A CASE STUDY OF NICAN RESORT HOTEL SSEGUKU
The study is about Energy consumption practices and financial performance of hotels in Uganda, focusing on Nican resort hotel Sseguku as a case study. The study was guided by the following objectives; to investigate the energy consumption practices used at Nican Resort Hotel Sseguku, to find out the factors which affect financial performance of Nican Resort Hotel Sseguku, to establish the relationship between energy consumption and financial performance of Nican Resort Hotel Sseguku. The study used different techniques and methods in data collection such as study design, study population, sample size, sampling methods, data sources, data collection methods and instruments, data presentation and interpretation of findings. The study findings indicates that Nican Resort use energy consumption practices that is aimed at reducing operation costs. it was pointed out that the hotel also use charcoal stoves in cooking as one of the methods of reducing on the high electricity bills that could arise out of using electricity for cooking food. Hotel use energy consumption in air conditioning at all times. Since the hotel receives guest from different parts of the world most especially tourists among them, need different room temperatures, it has prompted the hotel to use air condition at all times which has resulted into high electricity bills for Nican Resort Sseguku. Findings also indicated that management efficiency is effective in ensuring efficiency in financial performance of the Hotel. According to quality responses from the field which stated that management is the most forward-looking indicator of condition and a key determinant of whether a firm possesses the ability to correctly diagnose and respond to financial stress. The study concluded that the hotel also use charcoal stoves in cooking as one of the methods of reducing on the high electricity bills that could arise out of using electricity for cooking food The study recommended that Nican Resort Hotel Sseguku should emphasize energy awareness programs to establish a documented view of energy usage at the facility, production to realize financial performance. The study found that Nican Resort Hotel lack the skills, technology, or incentives to monitor and evaluate energy usage at even a facility.
