ACTING TECHNIQUES USED BY STAGE ACTORS IN KAMPALA: THE CASE STUDY OF FUN FACTORY AND BAMBOO THEATRE WORKS

The purpose of this research was to explore the acting techniques used by stage actors in Kampala with specific focus on Bamboo Theatre Works and Fun Factory. This study used the case study design coupled with interview method, direct observation and document analysis. Findings revealed that many actors adopt acting techniques from prominent scholars like Constantin Stanislaviski, Michael Chekhov, Uta Hagen among others. Some of these actors acquire the skills from the different acting schools they go to and others just adopt them naturally because they work for them. Findings also reveal the different problems that actors face such as lack of team work, Unprofessionalism, lack of government support among others however, actors suggest the solutions to the problems such as promoting team work, government providing funds to the arts industry, promoting professionalism in the industry among others. It concluded government's support in the arts would be very supportive as it will motivate new creativity and sustainability of actors in the arts.
