COMMUNITY FACTORS AFFECTING HPV VACCINE UTILIZATION IN VURRA SUB-COUNTY, ARUA DISTRICT.
The purpose of this study was to find the community factors affecting HPV vaccine utilization. This was to generate information on how to design appropriate interventions to broaden cervical cancer preventive programs among females in the sub-county of Vurra and beyond. The broad objective of this study was to identify the community factors affecting utilization of HPV vaccine in Vurra sub-county. The specific objectives of the study were; To determine the level of awareness and sensitization about HPV vaccine among the community members. To evaluate the knowledge of the community about HPV vaccine To assess the attitude of the community towards HPV vaccine The study design used was descriptive cross-sectional study design that majorly employed quantitative methods. Results There were more female (54.90%) respondents than male (45.10%), majority were peasant farmers (40.20%), minority of respondent (16.67%) had no formal education while the majority (83.33%) had formal education. Most of the respondents were married (51.96%), tribe lugbara contributed the biggest percentage of 81.37%. Most of the respondents belonged to catholic religion (56.86%). There was good attitude toward the vaccine, low level of awareness and sensitization and moderate knowledge on HPV vaccine. In conclusion, even though there was good attitude towards the vaccine, community factors that negatively affected the HPV vaccine utilization were low awareness, and moderate knowledge on HPV vaccine. Recommendation: there is need for health workers through community leaders to strengthen the awareness, knowledge and attitude of the community about HPV vaccine through health education, use of film vans, radio talk shows not only relying on the community health workers like the VHTs.
