TEACHER PERCEPTIONS ABOUT THE IMPACT OF BULLYING ON PUPILS’ ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS: A CASE STUDY OF MASULIITA TOWN COUNCIL, WAKISO DISTRICT
This study was carried out in Masuliita Town council Wakiso district. The major purpose for the study was to assess teacher perception about impact of bullying on pupils’ academic performance in primary schools. In carrying out this study, three (3) research questions were posed. The study purposely sampled four headteachers five pupils and eleven teachers totaling to twenty. The instrument used for data collection was the interview guides. The study reviewed literature on the causes of bulling in primary schools, the effects of bulling on pupils’ academic achievements and the strategies of reducing bulling in primary schools. Following from the qualitative nature of the research design, structured interviews and was used as data collection instrument to analyze the findings. The major findings of the study revealed that t5he effects of bullying on pupils’ academic achievements are socio -economic factors, financial constraints, inadequate teaching and learning resources. Among the strategies of reducing bullying are developing literacy and numeracy skills among learners, development of early childhood program which develop along life love of learning. helping the leaners acquire knowledge or experience, documenting inputs ,and having stakeholders as supervisors. Therefore, the researcher recommends that private proprietors and government authorities over seeing the pre -school program should organize frequent in service training for both teachers and parents with respect to early childhood education curriculum.
