A REPORT ON BUSINESS PROJECT ABOUT RACHEL MAIZE MILLERS

It’s a one-year project funded by the organization to strengthen the area efforts to improve incomes and quality flour .it has to bring institutions together and individuals to develop and observe the complex issues that bring out success, opportunities, social development, have expertise and talent in the miller’s industry. Uganda has a strong agricultural economy which has potential in producing a variety of grain like maize, sorghum, soy and many others, therefore jobs are created. there is a high growth rate, most maize millers produce 1.5 metric tons a day. Across all regions, reliability of electricity is the biggest challenge and poor manufacturing practice. A survey shows 0.5% were fortifying their products and 1.8% were not fortifying. Despite the challenges, Gayaza has favorable market to produce high quality grain, feed grain, creating jobs, increasing incomes, improving livelihoods and ensuring continued growth. The target engagement in the grain sector is based on the following assumptions; domestic demand is high, sustaining the local industry of food and poultry from grain, the government support in the business of agriculture and exploration of feasible technologies to scale up maize flour fortification. Interviews with NAADS and Operation Wealth Creation who provide support to small commercial farmers and non-government Organizations that focus on nutrition and emergency food supplies and the stakeholders of the business.
