ASSESSING THE FACTORS INFLUENCING LIVESTOCK FARMER’S PARTICIPATION IN HAY MAKING PROJECT IN LWATIMBA VILLAGE BUKOMERO TOWNCOUNCIL KIBOGA DISTRICT
This study was conducted during SELPs program where a Bari student is attached to agricultural organization or project to practically use the knowledge and skills he have acquired from the university. This study was conducted in Lwatimba village, Mataaji parish Bukomero Town council in Kiboga district. Lwatimba village is a community comprised of livestock farmers and crop growers. I was attached to spark agro initiative located in Nansana which operates in all the parts of the country.Spark agro initiative attached me to Pral mixed farm in Lwatimba village for my field activities. This study was conducted using action research design where you take action as you learn from those actions. This study focuses on the factors that influenced livestock and participation in hay making trainings that I conducted in the community to overcome the problem of fodder shortage during dry season. I found out that Lwatimba village is among the communities where livestock is one of the major economic activity done in the community through using RRA approach in analyzing the situation. Data collection methods used include interview, observation, focus group discussion and secondary data. Factors identified include; socio, political, economic and physical factors. Extension methods used include demonstrations, meetings, phone calls, home and farm visits.
